An interesting fact about The Railway Series and the earliest series of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends - most of the unusual accidents and incidents were based on real world events and some of the odd occurrences on British railways.
For example, the story where Thomas fell into a mine was based on something that actually happened. As well as the infamous story when Henry was bricked up in a tunnel!
