28 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

One of the good things that came from my time at Goodwill were are the little Thomas finds over the 3 years I was there. Sometimes I'd buy a bag of toys just for a couple of Thomas trains, I'd say about a third of my current collection is probably from Goodwill in recent years. Something to give my kids someday. 28 days until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom!

A Surprisingly Sunny Day, Which I Spent Indoors - October 31st 2023

Like yesterday, I'm tired and heavy for no particular reason. It's like this every year, but I hope that it will get better soon. Watched a couple movies and worked on my little projects, but the day passed in a blur and I don't remember much.

29 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

Back in 2006, I was 13 years old, I got a subscription to the new Thomas & Friends magazine and collected them for a couple years. I would read them to my baby brother. Lots of good memories. Today we're 29 days from the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom, the documentary about Thomas fans around the world.

Cold, Quiet and Sleepy - October 30th 2023

I have a rough time at this time of year, this year is not an exception, but I think it's been better this year overall. A lot like last winter, how it was warm overall, but super cold for just a few days - that's kinda how my (undiagnosed) depression has been.

I got up early, put in my shift, walked home noting the cold and dreary weather and then chilled in bed watching TV and working on some of my little projects.

30 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

Just had to pick up this Thomas playmat and toys at a Goodwill a few months ago... it's the closest I have to a railway layout at the moment. 30 days until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom!

Back to the Movies! - October 29th 2023

It has been quite awhile since we've been to the movies, so I was pretty excited about today! Originally I had picked 3 movies to watch in Pittsburgh, but we decided that Dad couldn't deal with all that with his injuries that he's still working on recovering from, so due to the distance and the selection, we went to St. Clairsville and watched just one of the movies - Martin Scorcese's new one "Killers of the Flower Moon."

Busy morning at work and of course we had 2 call offs! Remember yesterday? Work was dead, now it's hopping. I was scheduled until 10:30 today, so I'd made my plans accordingly. In fact, I was still planning on seeing two movies at this point. Then, on the way our vehicle overheated and we had to stop and work on it. I got covered in coolant, so we went home and I changed clothes.

Somewhere amid all that, I cancelled the first movie and we did eventually make it down there to see "Killers of the Flower Moon" and it was AMAZING! You know how many times that there is a movie that runs 3 and a half hours and that it grips you the entire time? Not very often.

We had a blast. What a great day.

31 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

Just 31 days left until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom! I'm working on some videos about Thomas the Tank Engine, real life railways, steam preservation and Thomas the Tank Engine Wikia for my YouTube (https://youtube.com/@ZacharyEvanMedley) I made 13 videos earlier this year, but I wasn't satisfied with the quality, so I'm doing a bit of a reboot with 30 installments. Hope to release them before the premiere.

An Exceedingly Quiet Day - October 28th 2023

A very quiet morning at work, I actually remembered to fix something small a coworker had pointed out to me recently, the cookies had went up to $1.69 from $1.59 awhile back and the stickers in the display had been overlooked. So, I made sure to change them while things were quiet. It's always quiet when we have the staff and crazy when we don't. smh.

Binged some Midsomer Murders and sorted through some photos. Made a list of Thomas the Tank Engine-related videos to record for my YouTube. Worked on some other projects, started a movie and ended up falling asleep.

32 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

I'm working on collecting all of this toy line (I've only got a few so far) called the ERTL Gold Rail Series they're more detailed than the regular ERTL line and they have magnet couplings unlike the regular line. They're pretty cool. Anyway, today the final trailer was released for An Unlikely Fandom, which premieres in a month! Check out the trailer here: https://youtu.be/hNJ2A1b6AX0?si=jsNmqNvYnjeTR3mi

A Sleepy Afternoon - October 27th 2023

With the pressure I put on myself with the audition, I'd managed not to fall asleep during the afternoon this past week. Today after work, a walk to Goodwill and renting/starting another movie I've wanted to see, I fell asleep for the afternoon.

I woke up in the evening and took care of the things I meant to do, but eventually I had to go to sleep and be ready for work in the morning.

One of the things that I did while I was awake this evening though, was clean up everything real quick. I made sure to take a picture of Grandpa's ties before I put them away. Grandma gave away Grandpa's clothes a few days ago and Mom brought me Grandpa's ties, because I'm the only one in the family that wears ties and I have quite the collection. The purple one is my favorite!

33 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

I cannot remember if I've mentioned this before, but a lot of us really connected with the music of the early Thomas the Tank Engine series. Mike O'Donnell was co-composer of these early tunes with Junior Campbell. In recent years, he's performed a number of their old tracks and released them on CD. I only have the first 3, but I look forward to completing my collection in the near future. 33 days until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom!

Auditioning for The Voice - October 26th 2023

I got to work early, put in my shift. Out around 11:00. I went home to put in some serious warm-up and practice for the audition. I wish I'd taken some vocal lessons over the past few years like I'd intended to, but for one reason or another it hasn't happened. Nevertheless, I'd promised myself that I would audition for The Voice when I turned 30 and with everything that has gone wrong lately, I just wanted to have this thing, you know. Honestly didn't really give much thought to which way it might go.

But, I didn't want to embarrass myself, so I made sure to warm up, chose the best place to record, practiced for a couple hours (with both of my TVs turned up so they neighbors wouldn't listen it lol). It got kinda warm wearing a suit and practicing in an enclosed space, but I was ready when it came time. I almost chickened out, but that's why I told everyone I was going to do it, so I couldn't give up.

I auditioned and was so relieved that it was just a recording and that I got to review before sending it in (I recorded twice before sending). I'd been stressing about this for awhile, so it was a huge relief to have done it and a bit of a confidence boost.

Afterwards, I called my Mom to let her know how it went and I also ordered a pizza from Gionino's which is near my house. It's pay day, so I figure it was good to celebrate  Had a delicious dinner and rented a couple movies I'd been wanting to see.

Ended up falling asleep early, but I woke up later and checked my email and saw that I was not accepted on The Voice, honestly not really disappointed for where I am right now, just glad I followed through and tried. Hope to try again someday when I'm better prepared.

A little footnote: today was the day that someone left a box full of green peppers and a box of beets on my porch. No idea who he was.

34 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

This popped into my head during my Thomas reminiscing. I'm pretty sure I watched this one almost to pieces. I always loved the Thomas music videos (and sometimes they'd show scenes from episodes that hadn't released yet) Might still have the VHS around here somewhere.

Peanut Butter and Mayonnaise - October 25th 2023

Got to work early and got in and clocked in early as well. Had a decent shift got out about a quarter after 11. The day had been pretty gray and gloomy, but the sun broke through a few times and lit things up real nice.

On my walk home from work, I snapped a picture of the work in progress on the car wash. I find it rather interesting that a lot of the businesses on Canton Rd. have been renovating lately. Got home and took a shower. Watched some shows.

I noticed that I had a big old bruise on my leg from where one of my coworkers had playfully kicked me a couple days ago. I never bruise, but this time it bruised up real bad for no real reason. Snapped a picture of it and teased her about it.

Had a peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich while I watched my shows and worked on my projects.

I was still debating on song selection for my audition tomorrow when I started the day, but I realized it was going to be either "Kryptonite" by Three Doors Down or "The Last of the Real Ones" by Fall Out Boy. By the time I'd got to work, listening to the two songs on repeat - I decided on the song by Fall Out Boy. No idea whether it's a good selection, but I know it well.

35 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

I've spent the last couple days working on content for A to Z with Zachary E, and I have several Thomas themed adventures which will feature in the future. During that time from 2017-2019 when I was traveling a lot, a few of those trips were specifically to see something Thomas the Tank Engine related. I'm looking forward to the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom in just 35 days! Hope to see you there!

Planning, Catching Up and Writing - October 24th 2023

Woke up early and managed to work a little bit on a few projects. Then headed in to my shift at work. Made it there on time, but still had to wait almost 5 minutes to be let inside. But I've managed to get to work before everyone else or at least early since my screw up earlier this months.

I got a Biggie Bag with my employee discount on the way out and then went home and watched shows while I worked on a couple of my little projects. Caught up some things. Wrote down some plans. Started thinking about my other blog, I Am Medley and what form it might take going forward. I re-labled all the existing posts as "archive" and started drafting a post for it titled "5 Facts about the RMS Titanic" as it's a topic I know a lot about and I want to start leaning into things I enjoy and know a lot about. I figure if I chase my passions, my tribe will find me.

Pretty nervous about my audition for The Voice coming up. Still trying to decide on a song.

Finally Editing 2017 Videos - October 23rd 2023

Pleased as punch to get a $4.25 tip today and used it to buy lunch.

Put in a lot of work today, after work I made my usual morning posts - I had slept in a bit this morning so had to do them later, did some tidying around the house and finally, after 6 and a half years, began editing my videos from the Phoenix trip.

I binged almost an entire season of Walker, finishing season 2 while working. Got my first TikTok edited from the Phoenix Adventure and then I edited an intro for my YouTube videos, a 35 second one and a 25 second one. Sorted out all the videos from Day 1, a little less that 12 minutes of material. I'll probably get them edited tomorrow.

37 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

37 days until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom! So this entire time I've been planning to attend the train show over the weekend leading up to the premiere event, but due to everything I've got going on in my life, I'll not be able to attend this year. 🙃 Still looking forward to seeing everyone at the premiere! 🎥

Some Lawn Work for Dad - October 22nd 2023

Woke up at around 2:30 or 3:00 because of kidney pain, not only had I fallen asleep extra early last night, but I had also not drank enough water yesterday. Realized either last night or this morning that I won't be able to attend the train show in November, only the premiere event, due to money and time.

I got all my usual morning projects out of the way and then got to work on time. After work, I remembered I'd promised Mom that I'd come down and help Dad again, this time with moving things around.

Mom and I had a conversation about when I'm going to be leaving, I'd been a bit stressed about January even though that was my original choice, with Dad's accident and Grandpa's death - I've not had the time or energy to show my trailer and now it's getting cold out. I won't be able to sell until at least until spring. So, I'm going to take a more relaxed approach and leave as soon as possible, but when it's warm enough for someone to move.

Mom also brought me Grandpa's ties as Dad had helped go through Grandpa's clothes and donated the ones no one wanted to Goodwill.

I helped Dad do some grocery shopping, then we got some diesel for his furnace. I moved some wood and cement tiles around back of the house after pouring the fuel in. Mom fixed us Manwich while I worked.

Then we sat down to watch some shows. Dad wasn't feeling good, so we paused Doctor Who so that he could lie down. Mom and I watched an episode of Midsomer Murders, and I set up a Freevee account so she could watch some other stuff on there and added the show to her list.

Once I went home to bed, Dad messaged me to remember to bring in my plants and so I did, a frost was forecast for tonight.

38 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

It's hard to believe there's only 38 days until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom! I can't wait to be there to see it on the big screen with my fellow Thomas the Tank Engine fans.

Been very busy these past couple days, but I was looking through my Thomas collection this morning before leaving and snapped this selfie with one of my plush Thomas toys.

Working on One of My Side Projects - October 21st 2023

After work, a little stroll to Goodwill and then home to work on my little projects. One of my particular ones is a social media project I'm hoping to grow into something but I'm not linking it to my main stuff right now. I have been getting up at 4:30 and making my daily posts for the Thomas Wiki, Ronnie the Mole and A to Z with Zachary E, but this other project hasn't taken off quite yet.

This side project consists of fan pages for Doctor Who, Theodore Tugboat, Jurassic Park and NCIS, all of which are celebrating landmark anniversaries this year. I spent the afternoon drafting up some posts for the 4 pages. I worked on one of the shows I'm binging whilst working on this.

Made a little progress mapping out my primary projects as well. As you may have guessed A to Z with Zachary E is my favorite. It's my baby if you will.

Started feeling tired later in the afternoon and moved to the bedroom trying to relax a little while working on my computer - but I ended up falling asleep early.

39 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

A lot of people know about my love of photography, but not everyone knows that some of my early work was of miniatures and toys, particularly Thomas trains and dinosaurs. Every once in a while I return to my roots and do some miniature photography. This photo, of a Thomas & Friends mini, is from a few years ago. We've got 39 days to go until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom!

Tacos, Radio Dramas and Writing - October 20th 2023

I heard rain on the roof when I was still lying in bed updating some of my projects, so I decided to message my manager and see if she could give me a ride to work. She was already there, so I told her nevermind. It turned out that the rain was mostly dripping from the tree, and that there was only a light mist on the walk to work. I didn't linger though, I don't like being wet and cold.

Had a good shift at work, and then returned home and cooked some tacos. Did some more cleaning around the house and listened to a few more audio dramas - finally surpassing the number I'd wanted to have listened to by this date. (I'm now ahead in both movies and audio dramas, I'll tackle my reading list next). Speaking of reading, I've brought out my physical books I'll read next, as well as downloaded a number of audio ones.

Finished one of the shows I was watching and also worked on some writing for a couple hours. Mostly journal and blog entries that were left incomplete, but a good warm up for sure. If I can regain my discipline, I'm sure I can accomplish some things yet.

Some sad news, my friend who I was going to the zoo with tomorrow said her car isn't reliable enough to get there, so we're not going to be able to go. I'll probably try to pick up a few hours at work to make up for taking the day off. I desperately need money, so I need to be as close to 40 hours as possible.

All in all, a very good day.

40 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

Something this evening reminded me of Series 12 of Thomas the Tank Engine, back in 2008 - when they first started animating the faces of the characters. I was just getting started editing on Thomas the Tank Engine Wikia and I formed a little club to find all the information we could on future Thomas releases. Those were the days. We had a good time. Just 40 days until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom - the first documentary about fans of Thomas & Friends!

Getting Some Work Done Around the House - October 19th 2023

Despite the odd day I had yesterday with the mood swings and exhaustion, I was in a better mood today and I've been trying to drink more water and catch up on some things. I was pretty determined to stay awake today. I worked my shift and added a paragraph or two to my novel I'm drafting as well.

Took another walk to Goodwill before going home. They have a huge selection of Christmas wrapping paper, which may come in handy when I get to wrapping stuff here in a week or so. I do have quite a few Christmas presents ready to go (because I bought them during the years when I worked so much that I forgot I had them).

When I got home, I set to work cleaning some things up. Washing dishes, scrubbing the floors, making my bed - all the stuff I've been neglecting while I've been in this funk these past 3 weeks or so. Whilst working around the house, I've been listening to Big Finish audio dramas. I had been wanting to listen to 1 a day from the beginning of October, just to get in the habit, to check some stories off my wishlist. I had listened to a few here and there, but I wasn't quite to 1 a day yet. So I figured I'd catch up today whilst working.

When I worked on my computer, I watched a couple of movies and worked on one of my shows. Mom and Dad stopped by briefly on a test drive of their van - which the mechanic is not available to work on, unfortunately. A little random, but I also finished my list of every episode of Thomas the Tank Engine, aided by the Thomas Wiki, of course. I called it a night shortly thereafter, as it was getting late.

41 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

The Flying Scotsman is probably the most famous steam engine in the world and is a character in the Thomas franchise, going all the way back to the books. I had the privilege of seeing the real one on my first visit to England. Just 41 days to the premiere of our documentary, An Unlikely Fandom!

The Day I Slept Away - October 18th 2023

Following on from my more positive attitude last night, I was in an unusually dark mood at work in the morning - but I worked my shift and my mood improved with the eventual sunrise. After work, I took a walk in the sunshine and visited Goodwill for the first time in several days. I also noticed that the car wash near my house is being refurbished.

I spotted a birdhouse casserole dish at Goodwill that Mom might like, so I sent her a picture of it. She called me and asked me if I'd go back up and get it for her if Dad sent me the $ for it. I said yes, of course so I ran back up and bought it for her. After that, I went home and worked on my computer for awhile. I was powerful tired though and decided to have a lie down around 2:30.

I was out for six hours. When I woke up, I lay in bed and worked on stuff on my computer before going back to sleep so I'd be rested for work in the morning.

42 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

42 days until the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom! Another photo from last year at the Greenberg Train Show in Edison, New Jersey. Funny enough, this was November 27th 2022 - 1 year before our premiere event. 🙂

20 Breakfast Sandwiches - October 17th 2023

Worked my shift at work. Got an order for 20 breakfast sandwiches - originally he wanted 20 Baconators, but he ended up changing the order to 20 muffins. I took the opportunity to make a video and use it as my return to Snapchat after a month and a half absence. After work, I went home. It was rainy and gray again. I watched movies while I worked on my computer again. Nathanael sent me some things to update on Zion Structures and I did a touch up on the mobile site as well.

Watched a bunch of movies this afternoon, Snakes on a Plane. Wild Wild West. Final Destination 5. Had a good day honestly. I've been in a funk these past few weeks, but things are feeling better today. I braved the scales and learned that I'm up to 420 pounds (oof) but I'm determined to bring that down. I think that I'll try to keep track again and I'll start minding what I eat again.

43 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

This episode was a favorite when I was a kid and it first broadcast 20 years ago today. It's a story about a new engine who has a spotless record and ends up in an accident after some antics from Thomas. I was always so distressed over how Arthur's perfect record was broken by the accident. I can't believe this episode is 20 years old...
