147 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

Today's Independence Day in the USA, so I figured I'd make today's post about how Thomas was introduced to the states. 

Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends was introduced in the US as a segment in a half hour show called Shining Time Station. 

Shining Time Station was a show about a quirky bunch of characters and their adventures in their railroad station. It ran for 3 seasons, totaling 65 episodes (I've probably only seen a dozen or so) 

As a vehicle for Thomas, it was incredibly successful, as Thomas went on to have a long life of its own. 

The show also featured the narrator of Thomas: Ringo Starr and later, George Carlin; as a character named Mr. Conductor who lives in a painting on the station wall.
