22 Days: Countdown to the An Unlikely Fandom Premiere

 This is what the Thomas the Tank Engine books looked like originally. These books are called The Railway Series, as Thomas was not initially intended to be the main character. They were postcard sized, packed with beautiful paintings of the characters on their railways and had 4 stories in each volume. Since the first of these books was published during WWII it was unusual for a children's book to be printed in color during war time and this may have been a factor in its popularity. I've always found this fascinating.
